$235 in 1984 is just under $500 today

In 1984, Axel Foley tried to get a room at the Beverly Palm Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, in the American classic, Beverly Hills Cop.  The first Beverly Hills Cop I’m talking about here, you know the one – where the Pointer Sisters and Bronson Pinchot finally had a cinematic zero degrees of separation. Hopefully you’ve seen it.  Not having seen it is worthy of the House Un-American Activities Committee.  Oh wait, that was abolished 9 years earlier. Well, whatever, not seeing this gem is a crime.  Not having seen it again THIS YEAR is a crime. Either way you should be reminded of two beautiful moments from it. First is Eddie Murphy – portraying Alex Foley – trying to get that hotel room – and just being a comedic god. His delivery – the body language – IS THIS HEAVEN?   The other – Patti Labelle’s song Stir It Up – is the 80’s in a nutshell – and BEAUTY in a nutshell.  Put headphones on – TURN it Up – listen below the shiny 80’s pop surface.  So many beautiful elements.  If you don’t hear it, well, listen harder. Someone, please invent a time machine for me. Martinsburg, here I come.
