My first real exposure to Ms Grande was her first appearance on Saturday Night Live. She did a sort of rapid-fire of various impressions of figures in both music and in acting, if I'm recalling correctly. As I had no previous take on her, I was impressed by her talent and since then I've given her recent albums a chance, though ultimately none of them really grabbed me. Who's kidding who, I'm not exactly the target audience, so ultimately I've remained opinion free.
But as is tradition now apparently, I returned to SNL to see what she's up to in her recent appearance, and not only did I absolutely love both of the songs she performed, but the second song, 'imperfect for you,' holy moly. It was all so ... elegant ... and I don't know, some kind of strange futurism vibe that I can't really pinpoint. It's such a beautiful song, safely adventurous in all the right places, her vocals soaring, the off-kilter vibes of it all bringing Björk to mind, with a stage design that adds so much to the whole of it. Just fantastic; one of those "had to share" performances, and since sharing is caring, check it out below, and be sure to check out her other performance from the episode.
