In the summer of 1994 I drove down to Providence, Rhode Island with some friends to see a local indie pop rock band called Small Factory. I’ll never forget their drummer’s name … Phoebe Summersquash! Opening up was Luna, and another local band called Blueshift Signal. I was really blown away by them, just this massive sound, reminiscent of the shoegaze movement that was temporarily ending its reign over England with groups like Lush, Ride, and Slowdive in particular. I introduced myself to the band that night, striking up a friendship that has continued to this day. I even made them a music video for my final project in college, and slowly became the world’s #1 Blueshift Signal superfan. Challenge me, I dare you! They released one full length and two EP’s over the years, and now increasingly influential Brooklyn indie label Captured Tracks will be re-releasing their records later this year to introduce them to a plethora of bands and music fans who have embraced the shoegaze sound all over again the past few years.
So, this is where you come in! I was hoping my friends and faithful blog devotees (sarcasm) would be open to – as probably the only favor of this nature I would ever ask – going to their Facebook page, and “like”-ing it! The reason is, once they reach just 100 “likes”, their new label will be getting their profile up on their webpage to begin the promotion for the reissues. It only takes a few seconds, and would mean a lot to me to be able to help them out. The guys in the band are probably some of the nicest people you would ever meet, and they will not inundate your news feed with updates, maybe once every few months at most. I’ve included here one of my favorite songs by them, and hopefully you may like it too (as always, play loud). Even if not, any support would mean a lot, truly.
