Jaws 3, People 0



Plenty of strange sequels out there. Films like Ninja III: The Domination from Cannon Films. Amityville 3-D comes to mind, especially when considering the original was a massive pile of brown to begin with. Teen Wolf Too made less money than if they had just cashed in by re-released the original.


Jaws 3, People 0 on the other hand is fascinating. If I understand the story correctly, Universal Pictures wanted to take the franchise in a different direction .... a completely different direction. Instead of pretending to respect the original by producing yet another sequel - after mistakenly thinking the world actually wants more Jaws films - they thought "let's make fun of ourselves."


So the producers hired National Lampoon to write the third entry, as a spoof of the original and its slasher-esque sequel, the cleverly titled Jaws 2. Teen comedy hero John Hughes penned the script, one that would be described today as "meta." The story involved a film crew hired to produce the second sequel to Jaws (a.k.a. Jaws 3) while being hunted by a Great White Shark.


For whatever reason the project never made it past a script and poster, but reading the first page here, I loved that it opens in my beloved Palm Springs, California. So it had that going for it.


But it wasn't meant to be, and instead we got ...
