Review: Roller Boogie

What worked:

  • The energy: Infectious and sincere. Not as charming as another film with lofty, positive goals, that being Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo. But it's on a similar wavelength

  • The setting: I don't recognize this world as I was only 4 when on its release in 1979, but still I walk away from this with a strong sense of nostalgia, meaning there's just something about the execution that really drives the era home, making it feel familar.

  • The soundtrack: If you don't enjoy disco music, i think it's ok actually - I can see people enjoying this if they're looking for some light-hearted fare.

  • Linda Blair: Generally not a fan of hers, in pretty much anything, but I found her rather charming here and felt she elevated the film .... well I guess more than I ever expected she would.

At the end of the day:

It's just one of those films that if you go in looking for good, silly fun - quality be damned - it's exactly what you're going to get.
