Shimmering with Throwing Muses circa 1995

In 1995, Throwing Muses stopped in their hometown of Providence, Rhode Island in support of their sixth studio album, University.

It's a surreal feeling to suddenly see a video of a show I went to 25 years ago, especially one that is - well, it's not like going to see Taylor Swift or some other act where it's nearly inevitable that one a day video would make itself known. Watching this felt like it was just yesterday, and not the reality: this was a quarter of a century ago! Jesus H. Jones, that's scary.

I was right in up close at the then Westminster St location of Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel, with my old dear friend Maria, and I remember thinking Ms Hersh didn't seem all that thrilled that evening. Not sure if it was directly related, but in reading about her history with music labels in the US - particularly when it came to this album - perhaps that's what was up. Regardless, they sounded excellent (not that you can tell from this old clip of course) and it cemented my love for pretty much everything she's done in her musical career - and literary career as well!

I wish I could say you can spot me and my friend in the crowd since we were right up there, but it may be hard as I still had hair back then, so basically unrecognizable.
