Soak in that Parisian shoegaze

SEATTLE, Washington - One thing that is both a blessing and a curse with old age is losing the ability to be impressed by new entries into the pop culture cannon: music, films, books, television …. basically anything. It’s a curse in the sense that culture tends to feel more and more stale each passing day. Having seen so much of it before, the excitement wanes. But it’s also a blessing when something comes along that feels fresh, it feels twice that.

Not that this French band, Pencey Sloe, is going to necessarily be all that fresh and exciting to most; I’m not even sure they are to me as I’ve only checked out this one song and video, but it felt pretty fresh to me for some reason that I can’t exactly pinpoint. It could be the tones, texture and vibe of Slowdive that piques my interest so easily, which translates to lots of indirect bias on my part, admittedly. Regardless, it’s a good tune with an interesting video, and it has pieces of red cloth on some dude’s face, so if nothing else interests you, there is that.

The debut album from Pencey Sloe, ‘Don’t Believe, Watch Out,’ is out September 27.
